US to test Ebola vaccine on humans, may bring some hope

US to test Ebola vaccine on humans, may bring some hope. This is good news that development of Ebola vaccine has been placed on fast track.

A few months ago when reports had surfaced about people dying of Ebola virus in West African countries of Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, many had thought the virus would be contained. But the increase in number of deaths from the disease has alarmed the world.

Now the World Health Organisations and even agencies in the US are showing urgency to stamp out the disease. There are fears that if left like this the situation might get out of control with the disease spilling over to other countries and even reaching America through travellers. Besides despatching experts to the Ebola-hit region, Federal officials are working overtime to develop an Ebola vaccine.
Measles outbreak triggers fresh emphasis on MMR vaccinations
It is understood that once it is developed the drugs human trials would begin in September. This has been confirmed by a top National Institutes of Health official. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said: “We’re trying to go as quickly as we can give the emerging nature of the situation.”

The good thing is that the efforts have started yielding positive results with reports surfacing that the vaccine on which researchers are working have given “pretty encouraging” results on tests in primates.
